Who Can Play The UK Lottery
» Who can play the UK Lottery and other games and how can these games be entered?
The UK national lottery, otherwise known as Lotto normally yields large jackpot prizes and runner up rewards. This Lotto game is usually open to people in the United Kingdom only.

With Euro-Millions, the nine participating countries; Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, the UK and Isle of Man are entitled to enter the drawers.

The age limit for both of these games is 16 – someone buying a ticket at the age of 15 is not entitled to collect the prize.

Traditionally, players would buy a ticket from a kiosk. This simply involves taking a free slip which has a number of game boards on it with the number that can be chosen. The entrant selects the numbers and any bonus balls then gives this to a participating kiosk where a smaller ticket is printed. This ticket will have the numbers chosen printed on it, the date that the numbers are relevant for (e.g. Wednesday draw or a Saturday draw).

If a prize is won, this ticket needs to be verified in an official Camelot machine so it is important that this is kept safe. A fake ticket wouldn’t be verifiable.

UK players can now also enter the Lotto online using their mobile phone by sending a text message, so long as they have registered for the service earlier. People who have Sky Active, which is a special service that people who have Sky satellite television have, can play using their remote controls to connect to a special menu that allows tickets to be bought.

Finally there is registering with the lottery for an online account. In order to play online, a person must be able to provide a debit card to verify their status and also to add funds (this cannot be done by credit card) for future games, the minimum upload amount being £5.

The benefit of playing the lottery online is having no queues; kiosks get extremely busy at peak times, just as a few hours before a draw, or when there is a rollover. Additionally the system will save your numbers eradicating the need to look after the paper ticket, which can easily be lost or misplaced. There is also an electronic copy created of your lottery entry, unlike a paper ticket where there is no definite link between a winning ticket and its owner.

Finally you can play in advance when buying online or with sky Active. This is also possible with a kiosk ticket, but it means you may need to look after the same piece of paper for 8 weeks (the maximum preorder you can make), whereas online, you don’t have to worry about losing a ticket and you can set the account to automatically renew so you are never without a ticket. Many people have had stories of always buying a ticket with the same six numbers then when they forget, their numbers are drawn. Don’t let this happen to you! An automated system makes sure you always have a dip in the jar, just incase it is your lucky day.
