UK lottery Syndicates !
» How Syndicates work in the UK Lottery
According to the National Lottery UK website, 1 in 4 jackpots is won by a syndicate. So what exactly is a syndicate and how does this work to your advantage when trying to win that big Lottery jackpot?

Playing in a syndicate means playing with more people. Your group can be anyone; family, friends or work colleagues. They can be companies on the internet that provide a service; the bigger your syndicate, the larger your chances of winning are since you can afford to buy more lines or entries into the draw.

There is not an official limit on how many members you can have to your syndicate. That means that technically you can end up with an extremely long list of lottery entries and therefore a great chance to take a slice of the jackpot if you win.

So for example, if ten people get together and each put £1 into the pot, instead of having access to one set of 6 numbers, you will have access to 10 sets of entries since you are all sharing your entries. So if you won £5 million, your share would be £500,000!

Playing in a syndicate.

There are some important things to remember about playing in a syndicate.

Firstly, set up a manager. This will be the person who will manage the group; collect winnings buy tickets, check results and so on.

It is also recommended to set up a syndicate agreement. This covers each person who is involved in the group, their name, the games that will be played and the numbers, each person’s contribution, which draws and competitions will be entered, how winnings will be split, what happens if someone doesn’t pay or forgets to pay and there are winnings, if they are happy to have publicity with a win, and so on. The more detail the better.

Finally the agreement should be signed and dated by each group member and ideally witnessed by a professional person; a lawyer, a doctor etc.

When someone joins or leaves the group, amend the details accordingly.

The reason for this type of agreement is because if that big win does come along, then everyone will want their fair share. Additionally, the tax man will want to see documents (even though winnings are tax free for the winners).

Ideally, if members of the syndicate can agree to set numbers to be entered and a fixed amount each person will contribute, then the tickets can be bought in advance and also online (to avoid one person bearing the responsibility of the dreaded lost lotto ticket!).

There are plenty of ways to play in a syndicate; it can also be with a company that buys its numbers in the thousands, but as always, make sure the one you go for is reputable and has a its terms and conditions clearly laid out.

Overall it’s a great way to enter; even if you don’t like the idea of sharing a jackpot so many ways, remember that the more numbers you are entered for the greater your chances are and the prize money you take home in a syndicate can also be extremely generous.
